Youth Recreation Centre

Lion Containers recently converted a shipping container for a Carlisle-based charity. The shipping containers were converted into a recreation centre designed to support children from low-incoming backgrounds in the area. The customer, a charitable organization, worked with Lion Containers to bring this centre to life. This build represents phase 1 of two projects.  

Specifications

For phase 1 of the build, the customer required 3 x 40ft high cube containers, to be linked together side by side. The middle unit of the 3 shipping containers was fitted with an access door on both ends. Three glazed panels were installed, including one with a door. 
The shipping containers were linked together to create an open plan space. Separate partitions were added to create a storeroom, an office, a kitchen, and two restrooms, one accessible and one standard. The shipping containers were insulated and lined internally with 10mm PVC. A total of 9 lights, 12 sockets, emergency lights and 4 heaters were fitted inside the shipping containers. Extractor fans were added in the kitchen and restrooms to regulate air flow. 

The second phase of the project comprises of 4 x 40ft High Cube containers that will be linked to the phase 1 build. An entrance door was fitted on one end to allow seamless access between the two builds when the second phase is completed in the near future. 

The exterior of the shipping container was sprayed with the customer’s choice of colour: RAL 7016.  

The 3 modified shipping containers were delivered and linked together on-site. Due to the narrow alleyway leading to the delivery location, transporting the shipping containers was challenging. A crane was used to safely offload and position the containers as seen in the video.

The second phase of the build is in the planning stage, to be carried out by Lion Containers when suitable for the client.
