Water Treatment and Sewer Repair Training Rig Containers Case Study

We were approached by a Bury St. Edmunds based company who have been providing waste management and industrial cleaning services across the UK, for the last 38 years. They are the preferred supplier to the water, infrastructure, industrial, government and domestic sectors, and they contacted us with a training rig in mind. Our client supplied us with drawings which our CAD department were able to build upon and develop and which we have included on this page, and a 3 tier confined space entry rig consisting of 5 containers was constructed. The rig was to be used as part of their training process, and it was built to replicate the confined conditions their teams find themselves in when repairing sewers, unblocking drains, and cleaning large tanks and tunnels.

Safety rails were installed throughout, as was a platform for working at heights along with hatches and tunnels. The rig was internally finished in zinc rich black paint to replicate dark working conditions, with the exterior finished in green. The rig consisted of 5 containers; 4 x 20ft quality used containers and a 10ft quality used. The latter had the flat panel doors removed to allow the installation of a heavy duty steel personnel door.

A set of double ended Twistlocks were supplied in order to stack the containers on site. The rig was successfully delivered using articulated and rigid vehicles, and a crane was utilised to offload and position the containers.
