Chasetown Football Club wanted to upgrade their matchday facilities and create a modern fanzone that enhanced the spectator experience. The club already had containers on site used as toilets, but needed to build on top of it and add functional spaces with clear views of the pitch. 

The brief was clear. The new containers should feel purpose-built and fully on brand with the club. They should blend into the site and not look like standard shipping containers. 

Lion Containers designed and delivered a bespoke multi-container fanzone conversion that transformed the club’s facilities. 

What Was the Client Looking For?

Chasetown Football Club is a well-established club based in Staffordshire. The club plays at The Scholars Ground and hosts regular league fixtures, community events and matchday activities. 

The club wanted to create a dedicated fanzone area that supported fans, staff and players. A fanzone is a space designed to improve the matchday experience. It brings together viewing areas, staff facilities and inclusive spaces close to the action. 

The club needed: 

• A sensory room for matchdays 
• Office space for club management
• A multifunctional football operations room
• Elevated containers with views of the pitch
• A design aligned with club colours and identity 
• A finish that blended with existing on-site containers 

Container Setup and Layout 

The project used four containers in total. 

Three new containers were stacked above the club’s existing toilet containers. These formed the main fanzone structure overlooking the pitch. A fourth container, a 20ft high cube unit, was positioned separately and used as a flexible storage and multi-use space. 

The layout included: 

• One 30ft container converted into a dedicated sensory room 
• One 20ft container used as the General Manager’s office 
• One 10ft container used as the Football Manager’s office and viewing room 

Internal Modifications 

Lion focused heavily on internal detail to create a calm, professional and unified environment. 

The team completed the following works: 

• Installed fixed glass viewing windows in the 20ft and 30ft containers 
• Designed the 30ft container as a sensory room for quiet match viewing 
• Installed acoustic panelling to control sound levels 
• Fully lined all interiors in a black finish to match the club’s branding 
• Added walnut wall to create warmth and contrast 
• Sourced material samples from multiple suppliers for client approval 
• Completed a full electrical installation throughout 
• Fitted black sockets, switches and fittings 
• Installed black spotlights for a consistent finish 
• Added electric heaters in the 20ft and 30ft containers 
• Installed 5kW air conditioning units in the 20ft and 30ft containers 
• Supplied internal air conditioning units in black to match the interiors 

Every element worked together to support comfort, function and visual consistency. 

External Modifications 

Externally, the containers were adapted to blend into the existing site and reflect the club’s identity. 

Lion carried out the following upgrades: 

• Repainted all converted containers in RAL 9005 Jet Black 
• Colour-matched windows and doors in black 
• Installed the containers on top of the existing toilet units 
• Designed and built a 63ft-long platform to support the structure 
• Added side stair access to provide safe and practical entry 

The final fanzone structure delivered clean lines and a strong presence without appearing industrial. 

Build Time and Delivery 

The full project took 12 weeks from start to finish. 

Delivery required an on-site crane due to the containers being lifted over existing structures. Lion’s team supervised the entire process and coordinated placement on site. 

Despite the technical complexity, the delivery ran smoothly and safely.
