Let us start off by taking a
standard 20ft container and insulating the internal walls, roof and cargo doors with spray foam insulation and line with melamine faced chipboard. This is great for an easy wipe clean finish as well as looking good. Now that the container is
lined and insulated, we have reduced the noise within the container, given a balanced temperature and certainly reduced that horrible condensation.

We will then install two twin fluorescent
lights and switches, a few double plug sockets and a
heater for those chilly days ahead. All
electrics will be fitted to appropriate inlet and outlet sources along with the perfect trunking which will camouflage into the melamine. We would also install a quiet 5W extractor fan to allow a better source of air flow within the container. Using the internal height and maximising the space we will fit a unistrut
shelving system to both 20ft sides. The best thing about this type of shelving is that is is adjustable to any size, because we all know that sails come in different sizes. The decking of the shelves would be slatted plywood with 2m rubber matting which will ensure your sails will not slip off anytime soon.

Close your eyes and visualize this shed, because for me this isn’t a shed of the year but shed of the century. To give a final finish and make sure it suits your garden, lets clad the whole external with 150mm Sawn Larch wood on timber batons and there we have it, my “Shed of the Year” built using a corten steel shipping container straight from China. Whether you require a shed or just a bespoke conversion, our sales team would love to hear about your project and discuss further more. Call us on 0333 600 6260.

I’m sure you all know now that one of our containers featured on George Clarkes “Amazing Spaces” on Channel 4 a couple of years ago, well we’ve become a little obsessed with our amazing spaces. I’ve been watching George’s current programme on Channel 4, “Amazing Spaces Shed of the Year” and it has me thinking about what I would build for my ultimate shed.

My exciting “Shed of the Year” idea is to build a bespoke sail store unit, this is great for storing and drying those wet sailing clothes as well as for general sailing equipment. We have recently completed a project with a
boat racing team based in Surrey who own a lot of sails and tend to get wet a lot, so this type of shed is perfect for this occasion.
