This year’s
Download Festival will be different to any other festival. Not just due to the line-up (
Slipknot,
Muse,
Kiss,
Judas Priest and
Motley Crue to name just a few), but they are having the first ever cashless festival. Personally, I don’t like carrying £300 around with me everywhere, so they have implemented a new “dog tag” system. It’s a new technology developed in Germany where a small computer chip is attached to your wrist band, this will enable you to scan it at all the stores to speed up all the queuing. Download is also offering a free Wi-Fi system all week to allow people to top up their dog tag as often as they need to. 

So, let’s think about all the shops at the festival you can use this new tag at. Most of the shops are wooden stands with cloth on top. But think about it, the cloth can only protect the merchandise from the rain to a certain extent. If you had a
wind and water tight container protecting all the merchandise, then you wouldn’t need to worry about anything getting ruined in the weather. Plus if someone lights their zippo, the container is a lot less likely to catch fire then the cloth.

Where are they keeping all the drinks this year? With most of the sponsors being beverage companies (
Pepsi Max,
Somersby and
Tuborg), there will be a lot to hide away. Most people will carry their little ice boxes for their drinks (until they run out), but what about the people with big supplies? They could consider having a
refrigerated container to keep all the drinks cool for the hot weather. This would easily last them the weekend. 

So, how are we going to get the containers there? If, like me, you have been to Download festival, you will know there’s a lot of uneven ground. You will also know that most of the ground is grass and dirt. So nobody wants to be driving on that, especially if it decides to rain. The best methods for this delivery would be jacklegs to keep the containers in place and a trackway to get over the miles of grass. You would want to be careful about when you deliver; in case you get caught delivering whilst everything is being setup. However, we may be able to get the containers there before the start of the festival. No way of knowing without trying!
